DIRECTOR OF PORTFOLIO OPERATIONS

Fremont Private Holdings (“FPH”), the private equity investment division of Fremont Group, seeks a Director of Portfolio Operations (“Director”) to join its direct investing team. Fremont Group is the family office for the San Francisco-based Bechtel family. The position is based in New York. Our website is www.fremontprivateholdings.com.

FREMONT PRIVATE HOLDINGS

FPH makes investments of $30-100 million in profitable and growing middle market operating businesses (typically $20 million to $50 million in EBITDA) based in North America. While we have a flexible investment mandate, our primary focus is on leading control investments in founder or family-owned businesses. We are an active lead investor and work closely with our portfolio companies to build businesses over the long term. While some of our professionals have deep industry expertise, we are industry agnostic in our investment approach.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director will work with the FPH investment team to oversee its portfolio companies and develop and monitor the progress of operational and strategic initiatives. The Director will work with management to develop and monitor the progress of the businesses versus key performance indicators and the budget. On an annual basis, the Director will work with management to develop a detailed strategic plan and financial forecast and will work with the team to (1) ensure that management has adequate resources to execute the plan, (2) monitor progress versus the plan, (3) work to resolve any execution gaps versus the plan.

In addition to the duties above, the Director will help execute add-on acquisitions at the portfolio company level working closely with the FPH investment team. The Director will also lead the recruiting of senior executives at the portfolio company level. The Director will assist in due diligence on any new FPH platform investments post the Letter of Intent stage.

A significant “hands on” presence at each company as required. This role will include significant travel and time on the ground with portfolio companies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required, MBA and/or advanced degree preferred, but not required.

Professional financial qualifications such as a CPA are attractive but not essential.

It is expected that this individual will have a minimum of 10 years total work experience, of which three to five will have been as an operating executive or investment professional.

Private equity experience is required, either directly or as an executive for a portfolio company.

Ideal backgrounds will also include prior work as a strategy or operations consultant.

Retail/Consumer industry experience would be an asset given the composition of the current portfolio.

Highly organized with ability to effectively manage multiple work streams on multiple deals simultaneously.

Ability to engage and motivate portfolio company management teams and establish credibility from the C-suite to the shop floor (or equivalent).

Analytical by nature. Enjoys digging into the details of analysis and conducting both independent analysis as well as improving the analytical rigor of information from the company.

Indicates through actions and decisions a sense of urgency to get the job done.

Able to work in a collegial environment and be comfortable with a shared decision making processes.

A track record of demonstrated exceptional success – school, work, and outside interests.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

High integrity, hardworking, and self-motivated.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The position requires computer work for extended periods of time. May possibly require the differentiation of colors, shapes and symbols as needed for working with various financial documents, software and applications.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment is generally quiet although the position is highly demanding and fast paced. The office is located on an upper floor of a high-rise office building.

 

COMPENSATION:

  • Commensurate with experience. Base plus bonus and carried interest.
